This policy explains what cookies we use, what each one does, and how to control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
The short version
We use a small number of cookies. Only the strictly necessary ones load automatically. Analytics and marketing cookies do not run unless you tick them in our cookie banner — and if you decline, or ignore the banner, they never load at all.
You can change your mind whenever you like using the Cookie Preferences link in our footer.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. It lets the site remember things between page loads — that you’re logged in, that you closed a banner, or (for analytics) that this is the same visit as five minutes ago.
We also use similar technologies — local storage and pixels — and treat them the same way as cookies here.
Our cookie categories
🔒 Strictly necessary — always on
The site does not work without these. They cannot be switched off, and under privacy law they do not require your consent.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
cmplz_* |
Complianz (our site) | Remembers your cookie choices, so we don’t ask again on every page | 12 months |
_lscache_vary |
LiteSpeed Cache (our site) | Serves you the correct cached version of a page | Session |
wordpress_*, wp-settings-* |
WordPress (our site) | Only set if you log in to the site as an administrator. Not set for ordinary visitors. | Session – 12 months |
📊 Statistics — opt-in
These do not load unless you accept them. They tell us which pages actually help students and which ones don’t, so we can write better material.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC, United States) | Distinguishes one visitor from another with a random ID. Does not identify you by name. | 2 years |
_ga_R6XVFZ44YZ |
Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC, United States) | Maintains the session state for our specific property | 2 years |
_gid |
Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC, United States) | Distinguishes visitors over a 24-hour period | 24 hours |
Note: Google Analytics data is processed in the United States. See the cross-border section of our Privacy Policy.
📣 Marketing — opt-in
These do not load unless you accept them. We do not run advertising. The only thing in this category is the widget that displays student reviews.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_fbp, fr and similar |
Meta Platforms, Inc. (United States) | Set when our reviews widget loads content from Facebook. Meta may use these to recognise your browser. | Up to 3 months |
mailpoet_page_view |
MailPoet (our site) | Notes that you visited, so we don’t email you a resource you already downloaded. This tailors our emails to you, so we treat it as a marketing cookie and ask before setting it. | 1 year |
If you decline this category, the reviews widget will not load Facebook content, and you may see fewer reviews or none at all on our Reviews page. The rest of the site works normally.
🔧 Booking (Cal.com)
Our booking page uses Cal.com to run the scheduler. Cal.com sets its own cookies and receives your IP address, and it is located in the United States.
The booking widget does not load until you click to open it. Opening it is your request to use the service, and the cookies it sets are necessary to deliver the booking you asked for. If you would rather not use it at all, email info@mytutorly.ca and we will book you in manually.
How to control cookies
On our site
Click Cookie Preferences in our footer at any time. Change what you like, and save. Your choice takes effect immediately.
In your browser
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies
- Safari: Settings → Privacy
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Blocking all cookies will break parts of most websites, including ours. Blocking third-party cookies generally will not.
Opting out of Google Analytics everywhere
Google publishes a browser add-on that opts you out of Analytics on every site you visit: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
What happens if you decline
Nothing bad. The site works. You can read every page, download every free resource, and book a session exactly as before.
The only difference is that we won’t know you were here — which costs us a little insight, and costs you nothing. That’s the trade, and it’s yours to make.
Changes to this policy
If we add or remove a cookie, we update this page and the date at the top. If we add a new category of cookie, we will ask for your consent again.
