These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) form a binding agreement between you and Tutorly, a tutoring business operated by Jahid Hassan, CFA, CFP, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada (“Tutorly”, “we”, “us”).
By booking a session, buying a service, subscribing to our list, or using this website, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not book a session or use the site.
1. What we provide
Tutorly provides 1-on-1 and small-group tutoring in accounting and finance for post-secondary students. Sessions are delivered online across Canada.
Tutoring is an educational service. It is not accounting advice, financial advice, investment advice, or professional advice of any kind, and you must not rely on it as such. Jahid Hassan holds the CFA and CFP designations, but is not acting in a professional advisory capacity when tutoring.
2. Booking and payment
- 1-on-1 private tutoring: $75 CAD per hour.
- Small-group tutoring (2–4 students): $40 CAD per student, per hour.
Sessions are booked through our online scheduling system. Payment terms and accepted methods are shown at the time of booking. Prices are in Canadian dollars.
We may change our rates at any time. A change never affects a session you have already booked and paid for.
Taxes, where applicable, are additional and will be shown at checkout.
3. Cancellations, rescheduling and refunds
Our full Refund & Cancellation Policy is incorporated into these Terms and forms part of your agreement with us, and is set out in full below.
How we measure time
All deadlines in this policy are measured against your booking’s scheduled start time in Edmonton time (America/Edmonton, Mountain Time, observing daylight saving). “Notice” means written notice through email or our booking portal, and it counts only if we receive it before the applicable deadline, Edmonton time. A message received after the scheduled start does not count as notice.
Definitions
- A free reschedule is the right to move a session to a new date. It is not a stored balance and has no cash value, and it can never be converted into a credit or a refund. A free reschedule must be held — the new session completed — within its stated window.
- A credit is a stored balance redeemable toward future bookings, valid for 30 days from the date of issue. A credit is non-refundable and non-transferable, is never paid out as cash, and is separate from a free reschedule.
Cancellations
- 24 hours or more before start: Full refund to your original payment method (Interac / PayPal / Wise), in the original currency.
- 12–24 hours before start: Your choice of a 50% refund or a 100% credit (valid 30 days from issue).
- Less than 12 hours before start, with notice before start: No refund. One free reschedule, which must be held within 14 days of the original start. This is a reschedule right, not a credit.
- No-show, or notice given only after the scheduled start: No refund and no reschedule.
- Provider (our) cancellation: Your choice of a 100% refund or a free reschedule. A reschedule must be held within 30 days of the cancelled session; if no suitable slot is available in that window, you may take the 100% refund instead.
How rescheduling affects your refund rights
A reschedule moves your session; it does not reset your refund rights. For every purpose in this policy, a rescheduled booking keeps the original booking’s start time (Edmonton time). Your cancellation deadline, refund eligibility, and refund amount are all measured from that original start — so rescheduling can never restore a refund you had already lost, and never moves you into a higher refund tier. The free reschedule may be used once per original booking, and a booking that is itself a reschedule cannot be rescheduled again.
If you cancel a session you obtained through a free reschedule, it is governed by your original booking’s tier. Because that tier gave no refund and your one reschedule has already been used, the session is forfeited — no cash, no credit, and no further reschedule.
If we are unable to offer any slot within the applicable reschedule window, the window extends to include the first available session we can offer; you must then hold that session, or another slot we offer, for the reschedule to remain valid. This extension applies only where the lack of availability is on our side — it does not apply if you decline slots we offered, in which case the original window stands and the reschedule is forfeited.
Minimum reschedule block
Rescheduled time is subject to a 30-minute minimum. If the time to be rescheduled is shorter than 30 minutes — for example, a brief remaining segment of a longer session — we will, at our discretion, either append it to your next booked session or issue a credit for that time, rather than scheduling a separate short block.
Credits
Credits are non-refundable and non-transferable. They can be redeemed only toward a future booking, as credit — they are never paid out as cash. Any booking paid for in whole or in part with a credit is itself non-refundable to cash: if you cancel it, the credited portion is returned as credit (never cash), keeping its original expiry date. Credits expire 30 days from the date of issue, and any unused balance is forfeited at expiry.
Service interruptions
If a session cannot proceed, or is materially disrupted, because of a failure on our side or on the video platform (for example, a Zoom or Google Meet outage) and more than 15 minutes of the session is lost, it is treated as a provider cancellation for the lost portion: your choice of a pro-rated refund for the lost time or a free reschedule of the remainder (held within 30 days, and subject to the minimum reschedule block above). Disruptions on the client’s side — such as your own internet connection or device — do not qualify for a refund; we will, however, reschedule the remainder once at no charge if you notify us during or immediately after the session, subject to availability and the minimum reschedule block.
Refund mechanics
We initiate approved refunds within 3 business days; bank and payment-processor timelines are outside our control and excluded from this window. Refunds are issued in the original currency and to the original payment method only.
4. Academic integrity — read this one
Our Academic Integrity Policy is incorporated into these Terms and is a binding condition of using our service.
In short: we teach you the material. We do not do your work. We will not complete, sit, write, or supply answers to any assignment, take-home exam, online quiz, test, lab, problem set or other graded work that your institution requires you to complete yourself.
You agree that:
- You will use our tutoring only in ways permitted by your institution’s academic-integrity rules — and it is your responsibility to know what those rules say.
- You will not ask us to do your graded work, or misrepresent our help as your own where that is prohibited.
- If you ask us to breach this policy, we will end the session immediately, you will be charged in full, and we may refuse to work with you again.
You are solely responsible for your own academic conduct. Tutorly accepts no liability for any academic-misconduct finding, penalty, or sanction imposed on you by your institution.
5. No guarantee of results
We do not guarantee any grade, mark, GPA, pass, or academic outcome. We never will, and you should be sceptical of any tutor who does.
Tutoring improves your understanding and your preparation. Your result depends on your own effort, your prior knowledge, your institution’s marking, the difficulty of your assessment, and other factors entirely outside our control. Nothing on this website, in our marketing, in a testimonial, or said in a session is a promise of a particular outcome.
6. Our materials and intellectual property
All cheat sheets, study guides, checklists, worked examples, notes, templates, recordings, videos and other materials we create — whether shared in a session, downloaded from the site, or emailed to you — remain the intellectual property of Tutorly.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use them for your own study only.
You may not:
- Sell, resell, licence, rent or otherwise commercialise them.
- Upload them to any file-sharing, note-sharing, homework-help or study-aid platform (including but not limited to Course Hero, Chegg, Studocu, Quizlet, OneClass, Scribd, or Google Drive links shared publicly).
- Redistribute them to classmates, group chats, or course forums.
- Remove our branding or claim them as your own work.
- Use them to train, fine-tune or prompt an AI model for redistribution.
Free resources we publish for download are licensed on the same terms: yours to study from, not yours to distribute.
This licence ends if you breach these Terms.
7. Recording sessions
Neither party may record a session — audio, video or screen — without the other party’s prior, express consent.
If you would like a recording of your session for revision, ask. We are usually happy to agree. If we ever want to record a session (for example, to improve how we teach a topic), we will ask you first, tell you what we will use it for, and you are free to say no — saying no will not affect the session you have paid for.
Any recording made with consent is subject to the same restrictions as our other materials in section 6: personal study only, no redistribution.
8. Students under 18
Our service is designed for post-secondary students, and we expect our students to be 18 or older.
If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must read and agree to these Terms and book on your behalf, and must be contactable. We may ask for confirmation of this. We reserve the right to decline any booking.
9. Your conduct
You agree to:
- Give accurate information when you book.
- Treat sessions and all communication with courtesy and respect.
- Attend sessions ready to work — with your syllabus, materials, and questions.
We may end a session immediately and without refund, and decline to work with you again, if you are abusive, harassing, discriminatory, or threatening. This is not negotiable.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law:
- Our services are provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, except those that cannot be excluded by law.
- Tutorly is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary loss — including lost grades, lost academic standing, lost scholarships, lost placements, lost job offers, lost income, or lost opportunity — arising from your use of this site or our services.
- Tutorly’s total aggregate liability to you, for any and all claims, is limited to the total amount you actually paid us in the 6 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including rights you may have under applicable consumer-protection legislation, which are not affected by these Terms.
11. Privacy
How we handle your personal information is set out in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms. Please read it — in particular, the section explaining that your information is processed outside Canada.
12. Third-party services
We use third parties for booking, payment, video calls, email and analytics. We are not responsible for their availability, performance or security, though we choose them carefully. If one of them fails and a session cannot go ahead, we will reschedule you or refund you.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. The current version always lives on this page, with the date at the top. Changes take effect when posted, and apply to bookings made after that date. Sessions you have already booked are governed by the Terms in force when you booked.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply in Alberta.
You and Tutorly agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Alberta for any dispute arising out of these Terms or our services.
If you are a consumer resident in another Canadian province, this clause does not remove any mandatory right you have under your home province’s consumer-protection legislation, including any right to bring a claim there.
Before either of us goes anywhere near a court, let’s talk. Email info@mytutorly.ca and we will make a genuine effort to sort it out.
15. General
- Severability: if any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
- No waiver: if we don’t enforce a term, that doesn’t mean we’ve given it up.
- Entire agreement: these Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, Refund & Cancellation Policy, Academic Integrity Policy and Cookie Policy, are the whole agreement between us.
- Assignment: you may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may, on notice.
